Baby D and our appointment yesterday…

Hello everyone!

Well we got the test results back from Baby D. Baby D was a girl (we are still going to call her Baby D) and she had Turners Syndrome.

Turners Syndrome is a condition in which there is only one x chromosome. Typically we have either XX (girl) or XY (boy) chromosomes. Babies with this syndrome can be born, but it is rare. Most of these children are miscarriages and I have seen statistics that it could account for as much as 10% of all miscarriages. The girls that are born with this syndrome typically face a lifetime of health challenges.

The good news, if there is any, it that we are at no greater risk of this happening then if it never happened to begin with. So in that regard the ultimate diagnosis is similar to the diagnosis I received after I lost the triplets.

Other then that my appointment went well. We signed all the forms and I will bring some stuff with me on Friday to make sure that my RE has our advanced directives pertaining to our frozen embryos.

In other news my beloved navigational system had some issues. So I contacted Garmin and they wanted me to send it in for 3 weeks! I didn’t like that idea so the guy told me to try to see if the store would exchange it for me. To my surprise they did! Best of all it was cheaper then the original one! So Tony is very happy about that. This new navigational system or Jill version 2.0, is an upgrade. I have been having fun this afternoon getting her ready for our trip. On Saturday we will be driving down to Florida to visit my mother.

Okay question time! Ha ha!
I was asked the question on what a mock transfer was. A mock transfer is when they do all the steps that they would do with an actual embryo transfer, only they don’t actually inject anything. Also I don’t have to lay around like I do after my real transfer. The purpose of this is to measure the uterus to not disturb the lining for the real transfer. On the actual transfer they do do one mock transfer again, but that is different.

I thought I would take a bit of time to explain part of the Catholic tradition. I think at times it is misunderstood and I want to make sure people understand it. When Catholics pray to the saints, they are simply asking a saint to pray on the behalf of them. In this regard it is similar to when I ask all of you to pray for me, Tony and for a while Emily, Alexander, Christopher or Baby D. So when I said that Emily “performed” a miracle, I am not saying that Emily went to this woman and her child and physically did something. I am mearly saying that Emily, who was so pious in her short life, prayed and a miracle, in my opinion, happened because of her praying. I hope that makes sense to everyone. Please let me know if you have any more questions on this point.

Well that is all I have for now. I hope all is well and if some of you leave before I write again, I wish you all a Merry Christmas!

Jennifer

  1. A positive note on Turners, a friend of mine miscarried her little girl with Turners at 7 months…had a healthy boy the year before….THEN 13 years later had a healty son and 2 years later another son….and doctor said she wouldn’t get pregnant again….so it goes to show…it can happen!!!

    Hi Jennifer,

I hope by now that your cookies have arrived!

I loved hearing about the blessing you received at Mass last Sunday. God does amazing things in ALL circustances! Someday I will share with you a story about some friends of ours and their little girl. I will have some time during the Christmas break.

Glad to hear your mock transfer went well. As always, I pray for success this next time around.

Good you got your navigational system worked out before your trip. I am buying one for my husband for Christmas. He was in the Navy for many years and can find his way on the water but constantly gets lost on land!

Have a safe trip and I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and special blessings in 2008.

    Rowena
