I have been posting to the blog from my phone lately. I do this at night, when often I am tired. So I thought I would write a bit about what we have been up to.
As you can see, Max got a new box of school supplies… or maybe that was me that got the box for Max. Either way, we started the box this week.
We had started Max on Latin in August. The program we were using he HATED. He really wasn’t getting much from it so I stopped it and found another program. This program is Song School Latin. They teach both classical and ecclesiastical pronunciations. We have him learning classical. The program uses video and songs to teach words. The songs even Nathaniel likes! It also relates latin words to not only English, but French and Spanish as well. Too bad not German but I am not sure there is an overlap there. Max is REALLY enjoying this program.
We also started a vocabulary and a grammar program. These programs it is a bit early to tell how well Max likes. The vocabulary is teaching reference skills and understanding words in context. So it is a good program but after 3 days it is too early to tell. The grammar he has only had a pretest on.
Next week he starts Early Modern history (history since Queen Elizabeth I to just before the Civil War). This is the same program we have been using but it gets more involved since he is now older. I am looking forward to that.
His science curriculum has been wonderful. He is learning all about animals right now. 3 animals a week they are going though. He seems to be learning a ton and relating it to his world. Always nice to see.
Nathaniel is doing well on his own too. I can tell he is like Max though, and getting board easily. So I went looking for something for him to do. What I found was a subscription box service that is preschool. There are several of these out there but the one I decided to get a month of is Mother Goose Time. I liked the way this one looked and how it seemed to have everything that I would want for a preschool if I wanted to put him in preschool. My plan is to take the spanish in the program and put the correct German over it. That way I can use parts of it for both children. I thought long and hard before I ordered this. It is a bit expensive. However the price when compared to the Koala crate that we get Nathaniel seems like a bargain. Koala crate has 3 activities in it for the month. Mother Goose Time has 4 activities a day for 20 days every month! I will post more about this when I get the box. I should have it in about a week.
Since this is Ash Wednesday, I thought I would also share what we are doing for Lent. I have had the book “The Lenten Tree” by Dean Smith for a couple of years now. I had originally planned to make actual ornaments for a tree with it. However this year I decided that might be a bit ambitious for me. So I took to making little paper ornaments that I can then velcro to a tree. I will take a photo of this today after we do the first day. It should be fun for the whole family!
Well the kids are getting hungry so I better stop for now. I will be back later today with photos.
