The other night Tony heard a dripping sound. Now if it was me, I would have assumed that we just had a slight clog in one of our pipes or the toilet was dripping in the drain or something like that. Not Tony! He wanted to find the source of the leak. So he went downstairs and there he saw water coming from one of our copper pipes. It was just dripping. He woke me to tell me about it but seeing that it was just dripping and Nathaniel was asleep, I wasn’t that impressed.
The next day Tony got up early and raced downstairs (first floor not basement) and found water coming out of one of our outlets. Now I don’t know much about anything but I know that isn’t good. So Tony turned off power and at my insisting, I told him to start tarring apart walls to find the leak. My thinking is, we don’t want to hire a plumber to do a contractor’s job!
So Tony tore into the wall where the outlet was. Looked up in the space and could tell the leak wasn’t there but above that point. Then he went into the ceiling in the downstairs bath, there is about 6 inches of space (maybe more) above the bath and below the upstairs bath. There he found this:
This can be a bit confusing but the pipe is spraying the wood.
We decided that the best coarse of action is to use plumbers tape and repair this hoping that when it fails again (sometime in the future) we will be in a better spot to replace the whole line.
While Tony was up there, he found a newspaper (comics) and pulled it down. Now we have 3 different dates on when this house was built. 1957 till about 1961. The old timers tell us it was built about then too. This paper is from 1951.
We are trying to figure out why this would be. Here are some photos of the paper.
The date is December 23, 1951 if you can’t read it.
Finally I got some wonderful photos of Nathaniel yesterday. I had been trying to get these for weeks as I know I am in a time crunch for them.
Got to love the 2 tooth grin!
