Okay I am several days late in updating the blog. However we have been very busy!
Last week because of the snow and cold, I couldn’t go grocery shopping. Seeing that I didn’t need plantains from Aldi, I figured shopping with Tony on the weekend wouldn’t be bad. So I put it off. However this made our Saturday busy. We came home and cooked too. I made plantain crackers and Chocolate Coconut Squares. We also made French dressing, and then set to work on German Apple Pancakes. I don’t have 8 ramekins so I used my stoneware muffin pan. Sadly this is where things went south rather quickly.
We put them in the oven and walked out of the room. It was about 9 pm and Nathaniel was getting cranky. I ate my desert and was about to go upstairs to bed when the smoke detector went off! Both kids go off at the same time. We quickly realize that the oven is smoking… again! We really thought we cleaned it well the first time. So I get the kids and hang out by the phone waiting for the alarm company to call. I wait and wait and finally they call my cell phone, which it is a miracle that it was even near me! I have days where it is not near me. The alarm company tells me that they tried to call the house (they didn’t) and that the fire department is on the way. GREAT! They come, air out the house with a big old fan and we proceed to figure out the best way to clean our oven… again! I quickly get online and find this website. Tony sets to work making it and putting it all over our oven. I put the kids to bed.
Sunday I glance at the oven to see if the cleaner worked. It looks like it had, so we don’t go and get oven cleaner (that I really didn’t want in the house anyway). We then go to church and come back home and clean the oven. This cleaner actually works quite well. It is surprising how well it works! We take off the bottom pan of the oven and clean under there where the burner is. The oven is SPOTLESS (nearly) now. Hopefully this is the last problem we will have with it for a while.
However our oven problems brought a challenge for me as I was planning on making a Paleo’ish Caesar Salad (omit bacon and use sunflower oil and not avocado oil) for a potluck at church Sunday night. I want to make croutons out of this bread. I just make very small rolls with it and they turn into croutons but they are not the hard bricks that are normally croutons. So I have to make them in very small batches in my toaster oven. It works but since I made a double batch, it takes 4 rounds to cook it all.
So Sunday night we have fun at church! Max always loves a potluck at church and loved all the different choices… even if they were not all Paleo.
Yesterday, well we do school work then I have to get both kids down on time for their nap as we were going to go and meet up with some friends at a local library in the afternoon. That happens and when we get home Tony is only 20 minutes behind me.
So that brings us to today. Blink and you miss 3 days!
Okay here is video of Max skating this weekend.
