This post was written over several days. Main reason is every time I start to write it, something came up for me to stop. However here it is…
But I think everyone should shake up the way they eat at least once in their life… if not multiple times!
Because we are testing to see if Max is allergic to milk and we know Nathaniel is, we are having to get creative with our meals. Milk is EVERYWHERE. And the places it isn’t, soy is there (which we are also avoiding).
The other day, I decided to start using some of the MASSIVE amounts of produce that Tony has been packaging away from our CSA and storing in the freezer. One of the biggest things we have in there is kale. Yeah I have heard of these kale chips but I am not sure that can be done from frozen. I have found out that Paleo is a diet that is both dairy and soy free. It is also grain free but I don’t hold that against it. So onto google I go and I find all sorts of recipes for kale that are able to be consumed in this house. Things I wouldn’t ordinarily make like curry or a spaghetti squash casserole.
Yesterday I went to the store with my grocery list in hand. To my shock spaghetti squash was available at Trader Joes. So that was one thing off my list! Max has been asking for snacks, so I decided to make popcorn and have him eat that when he needs something. I wish I could find that GMO free but that is a project for another day. Tonight we are having our iconic green bean casserole made Paleo style. This is the recipe if you want to see what we are doing. Basically instead of cream of mushroom soup, it is parsnip puree with mushrooms and onions. Sounds good. We will be having it with a roasted chicken and rolls that I found at Trader Joes that were dairy and soy free. Might also have a salad as we have a ton of lettuce from our farm.
In other family news, we are now concerned again about Nathaniel. He hasn’t gained much the last couple of weeks. I was battling mastitis last week so I sort of get that, and this week he had some other issue where he pooed more then normal. So this could all be normal, however it isn’t fun to see our small son not gain. The silly part is that Tony and I both think he looks fatter now. It is almost like he has invisible angels holding up his scale and making it so he looks like he isn’t gaining when he is. I am pumping more and pumping more then I have been so I hope that this is all temporary. We are also feeding him an extra bottle a day to see if that can help this.
Max is doing well. So that is good! I feel bad for him with all the attention we seem to have to show Nathaniel though.
