Long overdue post…

Believe it or not, but I actually planned on posting this on Thursday. However life got in the way and here I am.

Wednesday night with the new doctor went well. He suggested that I eat more fish (for Omega 3’s, which I can’t take via supplement – per my oncologist) and eat papaya as I wondered if Nathaniel had some gas issues at night. He also thought we should get a bilirubin on Nathaniel as it hadn’t been tested since he left the hospital (the second time). Max loved the doctor because there were actually toys for him to play with in the waiting room. Sad as this may be but this is a new experience for him. No other doctors have toys in the waiting room for him (except for his pediatric dentist). Needless to say, he wants to go back there, which we will on Wednesday.

Tony was on the west coast Tuesday afternoon till about midnight Wednesday. About 30 minutes after he got home, the phone company decided to cut the phone line for about 3 minutes. Not a big deal but we use the alarm on our house and this action caused the alarm to go off. Everyone was frazzled by this except for Nathaniel (he had mommy, what else does he need?). Tony got Max calmed just in time for the radio in his room (that he sleeps with) to do an emergency broadcast testing!! With that Max wouldn’t sleep alone! I don’t really blame him. So Tony went into his room and slept on the spare bed. 10 minutes later, they tested it again!! Thankfully Max was quickly calmed but everyone was tired on Thursday!

We thought that would be the end of our nighttime excitement for a while, but sadly it wasn’t. I woke up Thursday night feeling like I had been hit with a baseball bat. I developed mastitis! I could barely move and I felt like I was never going to be able to give my little Nathaniel the milk he needs. This kept me awake much of the night again (as well as Tony). Tony couldn’t take off Friday, so managed with Max by having him watch WAY too much TV. I also was able to call my doctor to get an antibiotic so I had to go out and get that.

Saturday we finally were back to “normal” but our weekends are busy on the best of times lately. So little time to update anything. Sunday we went to church and then the church had a picnic. We all had a great time and I love it when Max doesn’t want to leave church!

I had meant to get Nathaniel’s bilirubin tested again on Friday, but because I was so ill, we had to wait till today. Hopefully it will not be bad.

I should also add that I have been feeling better since Saturday morning. We are also starting to wonder if Nathaniel also had some sort of an infection as he is now 6 pounds 6.5 ounces as of this morning! We will have to see if this is a trend or not. The only thing I am struggling with now is this antibiotic needs to be taken on an empty stomach and that means for 3 hours 4 times a day I can’t eat. This doesn’t sound that bad but trust me, when you can’t eat, that is exactly when you get hungry!

Now to the photos:

These are of Max and Nathaniel on Wednesday night.

My attempt at lowering Nathaniel’s bilirubin. I only had him outside for 15 minutes as I am in a strange position of being his mom knowing that my lymphoma is closely tied to skin cancer. So I didn’t want to do any more then that.

Nathaniel at 4 weeks old!
We have since measured him roughly and he is 21 inches long now and his head is bigger then at birth! Too bad the weight will not catch up but he is growing!
