Well we went to the doctor today and Nathaniel is up an ounce from Friday. This didn’t make the doctor happy but I told her I was going to contact a lactation consultant so she is letting us wait till Thursday for the next appointment.
So I talked to a lactation consultant after the appointment. She said based on the weights I told her from the flow sheet from the pediatrician, that he has likely turned the corner. She also told me that based on how much he is getting from from formula ( about 2-3 oz a day) that I shouldn’t be that concerned about my supply. So that is good.
She also pointed out that Nathaniel’s birth weight was likely inflated because he was born without labor by c-section and while we were both well hydrated with lots of fluids. She thought that maybe his actual birth weight would be closer to 6 lbs even. He was born at 6 lbs 4 oz.
She gave me some suggestions and I have started those. I will talk to her on Wednesday and may meet with her then so we can check latch and other mechanicals of breastfeeding.
Hopefully this will be over soon.
