Nathaniel…

Okay I have been meaning to update the blog more often but it is very hard. We have had continuous doctor’s appointments that are seriously making up for Max typically being so well and NEVER going to the doctor (Max’s last office visit was last August… when Tony was laid off a few years ago he got off his well visit schedule and we are trying to get back on it now).

So for a bit of a timeline:
Sunday July 21 – Nathaniel and I come home
Tuesday July 23 – First pediatrician visit – bilirubin checked afterwards and he is jaundice
Wednesday July 24 – Bilirubin checked again and it is going up
Friday July 26 – Office visit and they are concerned about weight gain and bilirubin – later bilirubin comes back too high and he gets admitted into the hospital
Saturday July 27 – After getting about 4 hours of sleep myself, Nathaniel is released with a bilirubin of 11 (his highest was 18.9)
Monday July 29 – Doctors visit. They seem unconcerned about bilirubin but are now concerned as he is not at his birth weight yet. They want me to come back today (July 31) but I refuse. I go back tomorrow (August 1, his due date).

So as you can see we have been busy. The good news is we did make it to church on Sunday and Nathaniel slept through the whole thing! Max didn’t even do that well his first time to church!

I am doing well with pain and haven’t taken a pain pill since Sunday. So much for me having a long recovery! I really thought it would take longer this time. However I am happy.

This first photo was taken at 1 week. I thought it would be fun to see how Nathaniel grows. The cow is his cow. Max has a blue dog named “blue” and this is Nathaniel’s toy.

Max took 3 months to find his thumb, Nathaniel found it in less then a week!

We have been really struck by how much Nathaniel looks like Emily. Here is an example of that:

These were both taken today.

In other news, today would have been the 7th birthday of the triplets. It is hard for me to be too sad as I know I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for little Nathaniel or his 4 lost frozen siblings. After all if the triplets would have come home, I likely would be done having children and my cancer wouldn’t have been discovered when it was and likely it could have been too late, or at the very least harder to cure. I miss my children and I think about them daily, but God had bigger plans for me. I am very thankful to have my 2 boys that I get to see everyday, and I look forward to seeing my other 8 children one day.
I want to thank everyone who prayed for me and Nathaniel through out this pregnancy and before. I know we wouldn’t be as healthy as we are, if it wasn’t for all the prayers. Thank you!

  1. He is beautiful! Such a wide eyed little guy and love the blue and orange colors. Once he gets the gaining weight thing down he’ll be appointment free for a bit. So glad to hear you are doing good too. Enjoy your time and enjoy your little men!

Glad to see an update! Loving the pictures! He really does look a lot like Emily. I am glad you are both on the mend. In my experience doctors get a little over concerned when you are breastfeeding about weight gain in those first couple of weeks. My oldest took around 3 weeks to be back to her birth weight and she also lost around 1.5lbs to begin with. They were all panicky about her gain, but I was encouraged by some women in my family who had been there and done that that I should give it a little longer and all would be well and they were right 🙂 I bet that will be the same for you.
