As a NICU nurse I can tell you that with a bilirubin level that high you can probably plan on spending at LEAST 24 hrs there, probably more. Also depends if he is strictly breasted & how well/much he is eating. Where I work we leave babies under phototherapy for at least a couple days, then wait a little while after the lights have been turned off to check what kind of “rebound” there is.
