Our Big Green Egg (or as Max calls it our Green Big Egg)!!

A few weeks ago Tony and I got a surprise from his parents. They said that they were sending us the money to get a Big Green Egg. I guess they had seen my post (not long ago) about how we took a walk to look at them. At the time Tony and I figured it would be a while before we could get one, and hoped that our old barbecue could hold out as long as it would take to save for the Egg. Their gift also included some accessories, which are partially photographed below. This was very unexpected and I know that we will have years of enjoyment from the egg!

Here is Tony on Thursday. We had put the egg in place after we got table top stand for it (that had to be ordered and got here on Wednesday). We needed a torque wrench but we decided to do it “red neck” style and used math and a bunch of bricks.

Sadly after all the using of “red neck” stuff. We discovered that the table that we researched extensively, had been made a bit too short for the egg to clear. So today Tony was out there raising the lower shelf to fit the egg and clear the hinge. Notice he had to take apart the egg to get it out of the table. That thing is heavy!

Here it is completed. Finally!!

But not for long! You normally keep the lid closed on a Egg. However the first few times you are not suppose to let it get hotter then 350 degrees. Sadly this is easier said then done! As you can see we had lava in there nearly! You also see one of our accessories, the half moon, cast iron, skillet/griddle.

As I am typing this it has been nearly 2 hours since we finished cooking. The egg is still too hot to have the lid down for this initial breaking in period. Tony is keeping a close eye on it and hopefully it will be able to be closed soon!

Our meal was very good and very filling! The smell of the charcoal was something like a camp fire when it was starting out. It made me want to take out the tent and sleep in the back yard… then Nathaniel kicked me and I realized that wasn’t a good idea.

Here you can see Max in some new duds! I made him these pajamas and finished them tonight. I also finished 3 shirts for Nathaniel. More about those later.
