I am having a hard time finding a diaper bag that I don’t have doubts about. I cloth diaper if you remember from when Max was a baby. Cloth diapers are about 3 times as thick as disposable diapers. I have prided myself on using cloth diapers regardless if we are out or not.
I need a bag that will house:
3-4 diapers
a small wet bag of cloth wipes with room for diaper wash solution
change of clothes for baby
a wet bag for dirty diapers
nursing cover
a small blanket
a few toys
Max’s water bottle
a spot for my water bottle
my cell phone, keys, sunglasses and a wallet
small hand sanitizer
It would be nice if it could hold Max’s leap pad and a book for him. I will sadly still have doctors appointments after the baby is born so I would like an easy way of doing that. I would also like it be able to attach to the stroller if we are using one (don’t use one all the time but I like it when I have it).
I love lots of pockets. I love organizational stuff in a bag. It also has to zip on the top as the bag I had for my Max would always spill out in the car because of the lack of a zipper.
The 2 choices I have listed to the right I like for different reasons.
The Ju Ju Be BFF is nice because it has that look of a diaper bag. However it is treated for stain repellants and antimicrobial. I don’t like having chemicals near my little babies. I don’t even like it near Max! I also like all the pockets that it has and it seems to be well organized with anything I could want. I also don’t like paying so much for something that is made in China. Not that there is anything wrong with made in China as my sisters are from there, but I would prefer to spend that much money on something made in this country. Direct link.
The Brook Van Gory is custom bag. I have choices in color, and fabrics to create it. If I want something added to my bag, I can do it. The bags are made in Illinois I believe by a woman working out of her house. Everyone has been telling me that she works with you to make sure it is the bag that you want. The bag that I am looking at is her medium size bag. If you look at her listings she has links to how much it will hold. She also makes matching wet bags (that attach to the outside of her bag) and a matching changing pad. Any bag I get from her would be one of a kind. I could also make a nursing cover to match the bag as I could get the same fabric as the bag is made out of. Direct link
So you can see my dilemma now. I am open to other ideas but I am not sure what I want to do at this point. I just know that I don’t like the bag I got for Emily and used for Max. LOL

I made and design my own bags and diaper bags. Just because I too am very picky and could never find anything I wanted or liked. Have you thought about making your own?

Check out all the Etsy options. The home/custom made one sounds best!

I did think about making my own but when I was in college I made a VERY deluxe flannel board (my professor said it could double as a sleep mat for a child) and it killed my Singer sewing machine. I have a Brother machine now but I am still afraid to be without a sewing machine for years like I was before. And whatever I would save making a diaper bag, you add the cost of a new sewing machine and it would be easier and cheaper to get one made.

I can’t imagine what you did to break it. I make bags all the time and haven’t broken anything on mine yet. Are you using heavy material? I use waterproof lining for the inside and all the pockets. And then I use a lighter material that is easily washable (for instance. outdoor material you would use for chair covers) I either make my own straps or I buy strap material. Don’t be afraid of breaking your machine again. Chances are, the one you had before wasn’t capable of the material you had chosen. Not you specifically. Good luck.
