Well I have taken a TON of photographs but most of them are for insurance purposes. Last night we did go grocery shopping to Whole Foods but there was barely anyone there at 8 pm when we went. It was a bit of a shock to me.
Today we went and did our conversion class, then to pick up our dairy stuff, then to Aldi’s (which was a mad house but that is normal on a Saturday – Aldi is a discount grocery store) then we went to the apple picking farm for the last of the season. We saw our neighbor and the farmer along the way and both are long time people to this area and they both expressed some trepidation about this storm. Which of coarse, is making us a bit worried. On our way back, we decided that Tony should have some beer as we are doing “german day” on Wednesday for our Reformation day activities. The liquor store is next to the grocery store (most grocery stores do not sell alcohol in this state, but we don’t go to a state run facility to get alcohol). The line to get out of the parking lot was longer then anything I have ever seen. It was HUGE. I knew a back way to get around this but it is clear that people are taking this storm seriously today.
We got home a little while ago and I have moved things from the side of the house where the neighbors tree is and taken photographs of everything on the first 2 floors of the house. The basement I still have yet to do but that shouldn’t take that long.
They say we will start feeling this storm tomorrow, and it will continue till Wednesday. I am not sure about all of that, I am still thinking that I will not have issues going to my doctor’s appointment on Monday, but we will have to see. We did get our first reverse 911 call today about the storm. I have also got 2 emails from our electric company talking about how prepared they are for the storm. One can only hope I guess!
We do have candles (other then my burning window from a couple of weeks ago – see October 15 or 16) and a hand crank radio so we should be good. The minivan also has a full tank of gas should we need it. We also have more then enough food and water to last us a couple of weeks in all honesty.
Well I think I am going to take a walk or at least help Tony with outdoor prep. If I see anything cool I will try to post it. I would expect my next message sometime tomorrow if not today.
ETA http://ready.nj.gov This is our emergency preparedness website for our state. It is poorly organized if you ask me (I don’t even have to call my mom in Florida when disaster strikes, I just look online and I can tell more then she can often tell me on the ground… if only that were here…) but should anyone be worried about us, or just bored you can look here. Some coastal areas are under evacuation orders… we are not coastal.
