Day 1 of our veggie/fruit CSA

Our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) started up and today was our first day of getting things. If you have never heard of a CSA, this link should help you: http://www.localharvest.org/csa/ You can also see if there are any CSA’s near you there.

Max and I took a wonderful drive in the country to the farm to get our produce. When I got there I was SHOCKED by how much I got. We got a small share, sometimes called half share or individual share. So that is to rightly imply that there are larger shares! This photo shows what we got.
We were thankfully given bags to get some of this. We will clean them out and reuse them. From left to right, we got 2 heads of lettuce (in one bag), 2 leaks, 3 pounds of spinach (2 large bags), collard greens, 1/2 pound of arugula (small bag in front of spinach), and 2 more heads of lettuce (in one bag to right). We could have also got fresh herbs (you pick). However our herbs are doing well so we will use those unless it is basil as maybe we could have a basil salad… that is if we don’t have a ton of greens like this again! Next week we will also have you pick strawberries!
Needless to say I am very impressed so far with the CSA. I am told that this is really just the start of it. In the weeks to come (our CSA will last about 26 weeks in the growing season… last year it ended just after Thanksgiving) we may get more and more! I will try to post photos so anyone who has never heard of this, but curious about it can learn.
That is all for now!
