Food Wednesday…

I guess first I should talk about the shiny things!
This is our old dishwasher that wasn’t working. Notice how it matches our rather ugly kitchen.

This is our new dishwasher. Notice how it doesn’t match anything in our kitchen, including the stainless steal sink! Ha ha!

We have yet to really use it but it should give us years of being ignored… lets face it that is pretty much what we do with dishwashers is ignore them till we need a new one!

Now on to something not so shiny.

Monday night Tony and I downloaded “Food Inc.” on our new computer and all piled up on the guest bed to watch it. It is available for rent or purchase (what we did) on iTunes or I am sure other places as well. Max cried in part of it and he didn’t even stay awake for the whole thing. I imagine he would have cried several times had he watched it to the end. Tony and I had to deal with our loss again in part of it (a child’s death is discussed in it). In the end, we felt that we must share it with you how much we really enjoyed this movie.

The movie is eye opening. The way most of our industrial food is made is scary. There were times that Tony as a biochemist was absolutely floored. However we know that we don’t really eat like that anymore. To me I see this movie as a wake up call. And it was made 2 years ago so clearly it is a wake up call that we as a country have pushed “snooze” on. Let me just say that I never truly understood the meaning of “food desert” until I started watching this movie and the other one we watched about a month ago. It really is sad.

I should also state that this movie doesn’t try to make anyone feel bad for doing what they think is right for feeding their family. At least I didn’t get that. It is simply trying to get people to open their eyes to the problems and hopefully (when they can afford to) make better choices.
