Woke up today and unlike how they were talking yesterday morning, it sounds like this storm is weaking. I am starting to wonder if we have had nor’easter’s that were stronger. A nor’easter is a big snow storm that often comes up much like this hurricane up the coast. It produces blinding snow and often dumps a couple of feet. It also has tons of wind associated with it. Basically it is an un-named hurricane of snow. Though I am not sure how high the winds get with them. Here I found this link that shows the differences. I think if Irene turns into a tropical storm before it gets here (which I think is very likely with how it has behaved in the last 12 hours) then we will be essentially looking at a warm Nor’easter.
At least this storm has been good for the local economies. People haven’t shopped like this in a long time!
I should also add that because of our ground already being saturated with rain, this storm could have the same effects with power, because it will just take less force to topple a tree with a shallow root base. Any way you slice it though. We are prepared. We packed up the patio set and made a decision to leave the grill outside because of the propane issue. Honestly if either of them go flying, we will have greater issues to deal with then just them. However like I said, I think this is becoming more hype then anything else. However I could be wrong.
