This is milk kefir after about a day. It is much faster then water kefir. This is how it looks when it is ready.
The grains have all risen to the top. I just stir them up and then…
pour into the strainer that is in a bowl (measuring cup). I can’t put the whole thing in at once.
This is what it looks like when I first put it in. My strainer is quite fine so I scrape the sides of the strainer to get the kefir into the bowl.
This is what it looks like when the grains are only left. I might have been able to get more out but that is good enough for me. By the way, I have about double the amount of grains that I need here. Tomorrow I am going to give half of them away.
This is what the kefir looks like. I store it in my refrigerator in a glass jar sealed.
The grains I put into a glass jar…
And cover with milk. This then gets a coffee filter and a rubber band and is put into the refrigerator. If you used a lot of kefir you could make another batch at this time, but I haven’t yet done that. To start the process just fill this jar with milk and leave out for a day. Simple!
We use our milk kefir to make smoothies, though you can do many things with it all the way to making a ranch dressing. So it is quite versicle.
Hope this helped my dad to understand.
Tony’s phone interview went well today. They want to bring him out in a couple weeks for an interview. This company is in northern San Diego. Tomorrow he has another phone interview with a company in Boston. Monday he flies to Boston for a face to face interview and Thursday he has a face to face interview with a company in New York City. I think things are really starting to move for him. That is great, though we are both hoping that if we have to move, it is somewhere great, as we really don’t want to give up the house.
Keep you posted when I know something.
