Well I met with the Radiation Oncologist yesterday.
I learned what the basic radiation routine is like. I will have to go in Monday through Friday, I will be there for about an hour each day. I will meet with the radiation oncologist once a week. I can eat normally unless I start having issues with my GI track which could happen considering where Larry is. I should be more tired then normal (which will cause HUGE issues with Max). I need to drink 2 liters of fluid a day while going through this.
Then we talked about the big issues. He made contact with someone who studies radiation effects on the reproductive track. He also wants me to meet with her which I will schedule today. Basically he wants me to move my ovary… he doesn’t see any reason why it should get fried. This doctor can do that. The big question and issue though is the uterus and how to minimize it’s risk. He said that right now (or at least as of the last CT scan) my uterus and Larry have a bit of a spacer between them, however it would be nice to increase that. He said that that could take the effect of a silicone bag filled with saline that would need to be removed after treatment, or maybe a gel that could push my uterus aside then after a while my body would just get rid of on it’s own.
He said that I would likely start radiation in May and it would go for 4-5 weeks. He will be contacting my Peri (high risk OB), RE (doctor that has babies E, G, H, I and J), OB/GYN and obviously my Oncologist. Everyone needs to be on the same page for this. Also he will be contacting the proton therapy unit to see if it would be good for me to have any proton therapy. He said that the area that he needs to radiate may be too big for proton therapy but, I may get it in combo with normal radiation.
I am to schedule the appointment with this other doctor within the next 2 weeks then make an appointment with him again. Also I am getting Chemo on Tuesday so that weighs into everything. I also have my PET/CT scan scheduled for April 23 and that will be a big scan for everyone. I also plan on scheduling my Electrocardiogram today, which should be on April 22.
I do keep the calendar listed on the right updated to our comings and goings. You can check that and find out when I would likely post… though if Max does something cute I will likely post about that… not to mention when our fence is complete.
Please ask any questions in the comment section if you don’t understand something I have posted. I have tried to be clear but sometimes I forget something.
