Emily handled her move on Thursday night well, and she is in a new spot in the nursery. She has been growing at a prodigious rate and now weighs 1480 grams (3 lbs, 4 oz!). Mommy has been able to hold her for the past three days, and Emily seems to enjoy it immensely. The ventilator is now only giving her 35 breaths per minute, but her breath rate is between 60 and 70 per minute, so she’s doing quite a bit of breathing on her own. Tonight when we left her oxygen requirements had also been reduced to ~51%. The nurses have been having an ongoing battle all week with her. Apparently Emily has a difference of opinion with them where she believes that she doesn’t actually need a tube down her throat to breathe. In addition to trying to pull her tube out, she’s been trying to roll over onto her belly when she’s on her back and move her head so that she can look around.

Hey there! I have been anticipating your next entry since I left Emily on Friday morning. I hope you like her new home! I tried to postion everything in the best way for you guys to hold her and have some privacy. We had such a good time on Thursday night. Her personality cracks me up. I’ll have to tell you guys about it when I see you next. I’m so glad her rate is down. She definitely has her own ideas about her medical treatment. It’s one of the things I love about her. It’s funny how certain babies and families make me extra eager to come back to work. I can’t wait until Tuesday night! I guess that is all. I just wanted to let you know I’m thinking about you guys!

What a picture of Emily with her eyes open. It is so cute. So glad everything went so well on her move. Everybody get’s a real kick out of you and Tony’s comments. You really make everything so clear even if I have to go look up some of the words.
