Emily has had a mostly boring week. She wasn’t doing well enough to be weaned off of her oscillator, but hadn’t been doing any worse. She was even down to around 40 % oxygen at one point and had several periods where she would go an hour or so without any desaturation warnings. Yesterday however, it was clear that she was taking a turn for the worse; She needed 86 % oxygen, and was still desating. Her mean airway pressure has been steadily rising the past two days, so the doctor has started her on another course of steroids. He tells us that a rebound effect from the steroids is expected as the inflammation returns, but that she has made definite progress over the past two weeks. His plan is just to contiue to try and wean her pressures down over the course of the next week so that she can at sometime be put on the regular ventilator.
