Day 237…

Today was a big day. So because of that I am actually on a computer and able to write something rather then what I normally do. Typing on my phone is only so good. Though it is nice to be able to post anything from there as for years I could only post from the computer. That is why there were so few posts when I started my blog.

Okay back to today. I had planned today to take the children to Thomas Edison Laboratory. I thought this would be a good break from school as I now have Max on a 4 day a week schedule. We also had an allergist appointment for Nathaniel today.

I should have known that today wasn’t going well when I had a 8:30 am appointment and it got delayed by more then an hour! Don’t get me wrong I like being at the end of the triage lane. The front, is never fun. Nathaniel is doing well and while he still is allergic to white potato and dairy, it is SLOWLY getting better. 🙂

After that we came home for breakfast. The appointment was so early that we had no time before. So we came home ate, packed a lunch and went out for our drive to the laboratory. We get 5 minutes from our house and we see an accident right in front of us! It was on the highway and the driver was able to walk away (amazing he was going about 60 when the accident started!). I pulled over and asked if he was okay, once he told me that, I went on our merry old way.

We get onto our 3rd highway, New Jersey is full of them, and I hear a tapping noise. My first thought is it is Max who sits behind me. He says it isn’t him. Then out of the corner of my eye, and more importantly the windshield, I see a flapping. We got the car’s windshield replaced a few weeks ago (awful day, Nathaniel was throwing up most of the morning). I am on a highway going 65+ mph and there are NO shoulders to pull off on. Even if they were, I can’t get out of my car to investigate this! I decided to ahead and get to the Laboratory where I am sure there will be parking so I can deal with this.

The miles drag on but eventually I get there. I get out of the car and see that the trim that goes along the side of the window is loose. I go into our NEVER used emergency road side kit in the car and pull out some duck tape and tape the top of the trim, and proceed to call the repair place that did this to my car. They tell me that the soonest I can get this fixed is Monday. I then call Tony who had called me while on the phone with the repair place. He doesn’t really understand what happened but knows it wasn’t anything we did and like a papa bear, gets mad. An hour later I hear from him and he says that they will be by the house today to fix it at my convenience, whatever that means… I want to have a fun day with my boys, not worry about going home!

We go through the Laboratory.

There was lots to see! I think I will have to come back with Tony. We then go back to the car and pile in. As I am loading the stroller I notice $10 just sitting there at the rear of the van. So I pick it up. I didn’t see who else it could belong to around.

I start driving back. It has me take the NJ Turnpike. About half way down the Turnpike, I hear the sounds of the tape giving way, then I hear the tapping again. So I roll down my window partially and feel around for the top of the trim. It is loose so I shove it back down, and try to smooth out the tape in vein. I then realize I need to fix this. So I hold on to the trim for 5 miles till the next service plaza (Turnpike is a toll road so there is areas where you can get food or gas without getting off the toll road). When I get there the piece is completely loose on the car. So out comes the duck tape again and I tape it down in 3 spots this time.

I get home and one of the pieces is starting to come up. I had been in contact with the technician so he is there before I can even get the kids out of the car. He fixes the window but tells me not to drive for 30-45 minutes. So we go inside and relax for a bit.

I then take the kids to the new Costco in our area. This sounds silly but some Costco’s have the water we like to drink, and some don’t. So I have to find out before I plan on going there to find out they don’t. The Costco seems about the same as all the other. We get a hot dog and leave to meet Tony, who has a meeting tonight. Nathaniel this whole time is talking about how he wants to go to the playground. It was 90+ today with about 90% humidity. The playground was one of the last places on my mind. However after the short visit with Tony, Nathaniel looses it and I need something to make him happy. He wanted more time with daddy! So we go to a little playground that I have wanted to try not far from our house.

So that is my day. Because today was National Park day weekend, we were able to get in for free. So all told this day, not including gas, and tolls, cost me -$1.30. Not bad for a day of fun and excitement!
